When I started out part-time, I knew very early on in my new career that I would become a full-time mobile DJ. I was immensely lucky that Michelle, my wife, was supportive to the extent of going back to work full-time so that I could stop working for other people and build my own business, something I had wanted to do for pretty much my whole working life. And we have never looked back.
Key to our growth was a moment of inspiration I experienced at Pro Mobile Conference. I managed to snag a seat with Randy Bartlett and his wife, Denice, at breakfast on the second day - the day after Randy’s keynote speech.
After watching Randy, who was the first speaker I saw at PMC, I was determined to find out more about the secret of his success and he was more than happy to share.
I discovered that a key part of their success was adding a photo booth to their services. This was something we had been considering for some time and that conversation was a tipping point. We needed a way for Michelle to join the business full-time and as we all know; a photo booth is just another form of entertainment that can easily be sold alongside a DJ service.
It’s been a long time since either Michelle or I earned money on anything other than our own terms. But the jobs of DJ and photo booth operator are very different. No-one ever had an ambition to stick a box in a room and let it take photos at parties. A booth is more of an outright business proposition and run as a separate business, can provide a decent living for anyone, full or part-time.
And that's just one reason why Steve and I were desperate to see a photo booth exhibition in the UK. It’s a massive industry and plays really well in the hands of us DJs, entrepreneurs, innovators and entertainers, and you can supplement your DJ income in an easy way. Or perhaps even provide someone close to you with a great way to earn a living. And I’m convinced the photo booth industry has much more room to grow. In the hands of born entertainers, that growth could be huge.
I’ve been going to DJ shows in Las Vegas every year since 2018. And I have also gone to the photo booth versions.Photo Booth Expo International, held every February, is by some distance the largest in the world. And that is the show we are bringing to the UK. We wanted to ensure there was something held on this side of the pond, so why not bring the biggest and the best?
At this year's Vegas show I saw new products, new innovations, I heard brilliant business tips (which can be applied to ANY small business) and I got inspiration for services to accelerate our growth. I can’t wait to see this show over here. It’s taking place across two days, Monday 18th and Tuesday 18th September. If you buy a key pass, you will also get access to the Sunday night welcome and networking event, our after-show party on the Monday night, and two days of fantastic seminars. We even have a small number of hotel rooms at the venue (Novotel London West) at a special price – all other rooms are now sold out so get in touch to book your place soon!
Every conference or show I have attended has provided inspiration and driven the growth of my business. Join us, and lots of your colleagues in September, you won’t look back!
