Leaving the DJ and music industry in the early 2000s, Paul moved onto other creative and business activities including higher/further education and lecturing, professional photography and digital marketing. He then joined the corporate world in America for six years, where he achieved success working with Denon DJ as the company’s brand manager, then marketing director, launching innovative new technology to the DJ world.
Mastermix’s Label Manager, Richard Lee, caught up with Paul following the release of his first Mastermix Dakeyne package…

Q: Your life changed completely back in 2018, Paul. Can you tell us about that?

2018 was a dreadful year. It ended with the deaths of close family and friends, divorce, and a near stress-related burnout as the day job became ever more consuming. But interestingly enough, the stirrings of a return to musical creativity were bubbling in the background, as I began to tinker in the studio again with Logic Pro whenever I had the time. 2019 tripped into 2020 – and boom, in came the global pandemic and resulting lockdowns. Within weeks, I’d parted company with Denon/inMusic and faced an immediate uncertain future, not only for me personally, but all around me as we entered that insane two-year period of Covid.

Q: Surely it didn’t take an esteemed producer like yourself long to find something new?

Well, I was subject to various headhunts and job offers, but none of them crystallised and, frankly, I felt that the previous few years indicated that life for me needed to change, for the better. I was already interested in the potential offered by the live streaming of DJ sets.
